Call for Papers

HAIL Workshop @ AIED 2026

Overview

We invite submissions from researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of AI, HCI, and the learning sciences.

Submissions may include research papers, position papers, system descriptions, design frameworks, or work in progress. We particularly encourage submissions that bridge disciplines and explore novel approaches to designing, evaluating, and deploying AI-supported learning interfaces.

Topics of Interest

AI-Powered Learning Systems

  • Designing generative AI-supported learning systems
  • Supporting feedback, scaffolding, and reflection in learning

Human-AI Interaction and Learning Experience

  • Human–AI interaction and collaboration in educational settings
  • Multimodal, embodied, and immersive learning environments

Evaluation and Real-World Deployment

  • Evaluating learning systems in authentic educational contexts
  • Evolving approaches to assessment in AI-supported learning

Challenges and Open Problems

  • Transparency, interpretability, and user control in AI-supported systems
  • Integrating AI, HCI, and learning sciences in practice

Submission Types

Full Workshop Paper

Up to 8 pages

Research papers, position papers, system descriptions, design frameworks, or work in progress.

Demo

Up to 4 pages + video (≤ 1 min)

Demonstrations of a system or interaction technique with a short accompanying video.

Encore Presentation

Recently published or accepted papers in relevant venues.

Include title, author list, abstract, venue, year, and a URL to the paper's PDF.

Formatting

Full workshop papers and demo submissions must be in Springer format [Overleaf template, MS Word Template]. Papers that do not use the required format may be rejected without review.

Authors should consult Springer's authors' guidelines and use their proceedings templates (LaTeX or Word).

Submissions must follow Springer policies on publication, including policies on the use of AI in the authoring process.

This workshop uses a non-anonymous review process, so submissions do not need to be anonymized.

Review Process

All submissions will be reviewed by the organizing committee for relevance, quality, and potential to stimulate interdisciplinary discussion. Accepted submissions will be invited to present/demonstrate during the workshop.

Visibility

Accepted submissions will be listed and promoted on the workshop website. We encourage authors to share their work on arXiv or other open-access repositories to increase visibility and impact.
